UC Patriot Archery Comes Out on Top at Indoor Nationals

The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men and Women's Archery teams were recently in action at the 2016 USCA National Indoor Championships. Scores were first released to teams by their region, but have recently been combined from all competitions for national results. Both teams competed and placed well in comparison to archers from some of the top schools in the nation.


Women's Recurve Bow – Top 10 finishes · Alice Buswell (Westborough, MA) won the National Championship, finishing 1st out of 32 archers with 1,120 points · Lakin Crum (Ashland, KY) finished 6th with 912 points. · Shannon Coleman (Rush, KY) finished 7th with 903 points. · Hannah Blevins (Eubank, KY) finished 9th with 876 points

Men's Compound Bow – Top 3 · Clint Moore (Falmouth, KY) finished in 8th place out of 42 archers with 1,150 points · John Whalen (Booneville, IN) finished in 9th with 1,149 points. · Korey Snyder (London, KY) finished 12th with 1,143 points.

Women's Compound Bow – Top 3 · Kayla Dowell (Payneville, KY) finished in 2nd place out of 28 competitors with a score of 1,127. · Kristen Swords (Ecru, MS) finished 8th with 1,113 points. · Madeline Brown (Booneville, IN) finished 11th with 1,102 points

Men's Bowhunter – Top 10 finishes · Caleb Kirby (London, KY) finished 2nd in the nation out of 66 bowhunters with 1,172 points. · Aaron Cook (Stanford, KY) finished in 3rd place with 1,171 points. · Jayson Byrd (Goodway, AL) finished 4th with 1,169 points. · Josh Owen (Meadville, MS) finished 7th with 1,149 points.

Women's Bowhunter – Top 10 finishes · Haley Haygood (Liberty, MS) would win the National Championship in the division, finishing 1st out of 37 competitors with 1,159 points · Courtnie Carr (Frankfort, KY) finished 2nd with 1,153 points. Nikki Nivison (Lawrenceburg, KY) finished in 7th with 1,108 points.

Head UC Archery Coach Kris Strebeck commented, "This was our best overall finish with two individual national champions and 15 shooters in the Top 10 of their respective divisions. I'm extremely proud of how the overall team performed and how all their hard work paid off."


The Patriots will be back in action on April 23rd and 24th as they travel to Grayson, Kentucky to participate in the Outdoor South Regionals.
